The Arizona track and field season is just underway, and already many Wildcats are headed to the post season.
Sophomore Amy Linnen, who holds the NCAA indoor pole vault record with a mark of 14 feet 10 and one quarter inches, qualified for the NCAA post-season with a jump of 13 feet 9 inches. She was one of 20 Wildcats with post-season earning performances.
Linnen competed in the Northwest Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nevada, while other members of the team were in action in Flagstaff at the Northern Arizona University Invitational.
Head coach Fred Harvey said Linnen's performance and current physical condition are just where they need to be.
"Amy says she feels great and is right where she wants to be at this point in the season," said head coach Fred Harvey.
The men's competition was highlighted by the personal best of Jevon Mason. Placing third overall, Mason eclipsed both his indoor and outdoor best, with a time of 47.20 in the 440 meter race.
Harvey said he was pleased with his team's results overall.
"I was a little hesitant coming into this weekend's meet," Harvey said. "We have great athletes who are diligent in their training over the Christmas break, but sometimes you never know with the weather, some athletes may not have had the chance to train as much as they would have liked to."
