The Arizona women's tennis team got another standout performance from its top player at this weekend's Pac-10 Championships, claiming semifinal berths in both the singles and doubles brackets thanks to the play of Dianne Hollands.

The junior, who was ranked No. 14 entering the tournament, took her first two singles matches in straight sets.

"Dianne played excellent," assistant coach Petar Danolic said. "She had a great tournament."

In the quarterfinal match, Hollands faced a tougher challenge in Dea Sumantri of Washington, who took the first set before losing 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Hollands then faced Raquel Kops- Jones of California, whom she had upset earlier in the year in the best match of her career. This time, however, Hollands fell to Jones 6-4, 6-4.

Junior Maja Mlakar also won her first-round match 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 over Lorena Arias of Washington State. In the second round, she was defeated by Daniela Bercek of UCLA 6-0, 6-2.

The other two UA singles players in the main draw were junior Kelly Perry and senior Debbie Larocque, who each lost first-round matches to Theresa Logar and Erin Burdette of Stanford, respectively.

"Kelly and Debbie had a tough draw in the first round, but they played good," Danolic said. "Debbie played against (Burdette), to whom she lost 6-0, 6-1 a couple of weeks ago. This time, she played a much closer match."

In doubles, Mlakar and Hollands reached the semifinals by beating Pilecka and Cindy Sureephong of ASU 8-4, and then defeating Anca Anastasiu and Diane Matias of USC 8-6. Burdette and Alice Barnes of Stanford proved to be too tough for the Wildcat pair in the semifinals, beating Arizona 8-1.
