For the second match in a row against Arizona State, Arizona volleyball jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. But this time, the end results were quite a bit different.

Arizona (10-11, 4-6 Pacific 10 Conference) swept the Sun Devils (8-11, 3-7) after winning the first two games and ending the match in three after allowing a three-game rally to ASU in Tempe last month.

"(Allowing a comeback) was not an option," said sophomore middle blocker Bre Ladd about the possibility of a repeat rally. "You remember games like that." [Read article]

Soccer splits set with L.A. schools

The weekend was a good news-bad news scenario for UA women's soccer.

The good news: the Wildcats (5-8-2, 1-3-1 Pacific 10 Conference) earned their first conference win of the season, and that win came against a ranked Southern California team (7-6-4, 3-2-1) while on the road.

Sophomore midfielder Mallory Miller drilled a direct free kick from 25 yards out Friday afternoon to give the Wildcats a 1-0 victory over No. 19 USC. [Read article]

Men's hoops roundup: Dickerson to call it quits

Dickerson to call it quits

Former Wildcat guard Michael Dickerson announced his retirement from the NBA Saturday.

A member of Arizona's 1997 national championship squad, a series of chronic injuries ÷ most recently, a severe groin strain ÷ forced the shooting guard to call it quits after just five seasons.

During a stellar career at the UA in which he averaged 13.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, Dickerson was on the All-Pac-10 first team twice. In 1998, he was selected as a third team All-American. [Read article]

Icecats drop puck tonight at TCC

As the Arizona Icecats prepare to begin its 25th season tonight at the Tucson Convention Center Arena against rival Arizona State, they are already forced to dig themselves out of an early season hole: their current No. 10 national ranking.

The Icecats ÷ ranked No. 6 in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's preseason coaches' poll ÷ have dropped four spots this season without playing a game. [Read article]

Arizona softball's campaign to win its first national championship without head coach Mike Candrea got off to a shocking start, losing to Pima Community College in the Arizona Fall Classic Tournament with the Wildcats' ace in the circle.

Despite sophomore pitcher Alicia Hollowell's 14 strikeouts and three-hitter, Arizona lost to the Aztecs, 2-0. [Read article]

Tennis roundup: Sophomore reaches round of 8 at regionals

UA sophomore Daniel Andrus pushed his way past an early first round defeat through quarterfinal action of the Omni Hotel Region VIII South Fall Championships in Carson, Calif. before bowing out in the semifinals.

After falling in first round action to sixth-seed Johan Berg of Southern California on Wednesday, Andrus fought his way back through the tournament's back draw, earning victories of Jon Endrikat of UC Irvine and Nic Beuque of San Diego on the way. [Read article]
