A student was arrested on shoplifting charges Wednesday after he took an orange from U-Mart, 1303 E. University Blvd., and did not pay for it, reports stated.
An employee watched the student put the orange in his pants pocket and walk out of the store. The employee followed the student out of the store and flagged down an officer patrolling the area.
When the officer confronted the student, he said, "Hey officer, aw man, I think I might of walked out of the store with an orange."
The student did not have his wallet or any money.
He said when he realized that the orange was in his pocket, he figured it was too late to pay for it, reports stated.
The officer took pictures of the 63-cent orange and placed them into evidence, reports stated.
A student called police Thursday after his bike was stolen from Coconino Residence Hall, 1003 N. Olive St., reports stated.
The student cable-locked his silver and black Specialized mountain bike to a rack on the west side of the building at 9:30 a.m. When he returned 30 minutes later, the bike and the lock were missing, reports stated.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
An employee called police after she saw a UA Risk Management "How am I driving" sticker on a non-university vehicle Thursday, reports stated.
The woman gave the license plate number to the police and they traced it to a Student Union Memorial Center employee. The stickers are only to be used on university vehicles.
Police will try to contact the employee and ask him to remove the sticker from his vehicle, reports stated.
A custodial worker called police after he noticed swastikas painted on the air vents of a room in the Psychology building, 1503 E. University Blvd., reports stated.
After investigating the reports of graffiti, police concluded that the swastikas were rubbed onto the vents with a black substance, reports stated.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
A student called police Tuesday after he saw a bag of marijuana in his roommate's dresser, reports stated.
Police went to the Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St., and spoke to the roommate, who denied that he had marijuana.
When the officer explained the penalty for lying to the police, the student recanted and retrieved a bag with 2.3 grams of a "green leafy substance" from his closet, reports stated.
The student said he denied having the marijuana because he had already been arrested on a minor in possession of alcohol charge. He said he was worried about being evicted from the residence hall.
He was charged with possession of marijuana and released.
Police arrested a man Tuesday after an employee caught him stealing from the UofA Bookstore, 1209 E. University Blvd., reports stated.
The employee had caught the man stealing two weeks ago and told the man not to come back. The employee recognized him in the store again Tuesday and called police, reports stated.
An officer stopped the man, who said he was in the store to purchase an Eminem CD. When the officer searched him, he found two syringes with residue, a soda can that was cut in half and an unopened Sony Walkman and headphones with a UofA Bookstore sticker on it.
The man admitted to using heroin earlier in the day and said he got the drugs and syringes from "some guy" who he did not know. He also said he bought the walkman from "some guy" downtown earlier that day and did not know that it was stolen, reports stated.
The officer ran his name through the police database and found a warrant for failing to appear on a drug paraphernalia charge.
He arrested the man for shoplifting, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and for the warrant, reports stated.
The man was booked into the Pima County Jail.
An employee called police Tuesday after he found a bag with syringes and other drug paraphernalia near the greenhouses at the Campbell Farms, 4040 N. Campbell Ave., reports stated.
The employee told police that the bag belonged to the two electricians that had been working on the greenhouse earlier in the day.
Police found the electricians in a car nearby. After running their names through the police database, they found that both of them had outstanding warrants for failing to pay fines on drug possession charges and for theft, reports stated.
Both men were arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail.
