Men's Hoops: Missed free throws, missed opportunity
Cats unable to overcome sharpshooting Huskies, UW 93, UA 85
SEATTLE - The Pacific 10 Conference title and Lute Olson's record for Pac-10 wins will have to wait.
The Pac-10's newest rivalry was as sizzling as ever, but so was No. 13 Washington, as it stopped No. 8 Arizona's seven-game winning streak with a 93-85 win in front of 10,000 raucous fans in Bank of America Arena.
The Huskies (23-4, 13-3) shot 65.4 percent from the field in the second half, as Arizona's comeback was foiled by four missed free throws down the stretch.

Men's Hoops Analysis: Frye's numbers speak for themselves during visit to Washington
SEATTLE - Lost amid the fallout from Saturday's loss to Washington and Thursday's win over Washington State was the play of Arizona senior center Channing Frye, who arguably played the two best games of his college career.
Shedding any label of softness his critics have often put on him, Frye followed a 26-point, career-high-tying performance against the Cougars with a 30-point, career-high slate against the Huskies.

Women's Hoops: Cats drop final home game to Huskies
UW 64, UA 60
Despite a big second-half run, the Arizona women's basketball team couldn't catch up in its final home game of the regular season Saturday, as the Wildcats fell to Washington 64-60 in McKale Center in front of 4,350 fans.
Arizona (19-10, 11-7 Pacific 10 Conference) takes the fifth seed in the conference and plays fourth-seeded Southern California in the Pac-10 Tournament Saturday in San Jose, Calif.

Men's Baseball: No. 9 Cats salvage Riverside series
It took a close call at the plate, but the No. 9 Arizona baseball team salvaged the third game of its series against UC Riverside.
Sophomore shortstop Jason Donald threw out UCR's Brett Bigler with two outs in the ninth to preserve a 5-4 Wildcat victory yesterday at Sancet Stadium.
Bigler attempted to score on a single up the middle hit by Nick Salotti.
The ball died in the outfield before Donald picked it up and threw him out on a close play at home argued by Riverside.

Softball: Hollowell sets K record in 2 no-hitters
Alicia Hollowell put a convincing stamp yesterday on her record-breaking weekend for the No. 1 Arizona softball team.
Hollowell (8-0) struck out 15 and allowed three hits in seven innings, as the Wildcats (13-0) defeated host team No. 11 Baylor (17-3) 1-0 in the Compass Bank Invitational in Waco, Texas.
The junior ace has 1,029 career strikeouts, surpassing the mark held by Jennie Finch (1,028, 1999-2002).

Tennis teams split close weekend matches
The No. 34 Arizona men's tennis team got a well-deserved victory Friday.
After being cooped up in a California hotel last weekend, the Wildcats took out their frustration on up-and-coming No. 26 ASU 5-2.
"The guys were due for a good win," said Arizona assistant coach Tad Berkowitz. "They were intense, and they needed to be."
Senior Colin O'Grady and junior Roger Matalonga defeated ASU's Andy Colombo and Jonathan Kinsella, 8-6.

Track: Men third, women fifth at MPSF Championships
Five members of the Arizona men's track and field team captured individual titles at the 2005 Mountain-Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Seattle, setting two school records and three meet records in the process.
The women's team had an individual champion as well, as senior thrower Sara Vigil set a school record in the women's weight-throw with a toss of 63-4 3/4.

Gymcats fall to No. 8 Georgia and No. 2 UCLA
Following a poor second rotation, the No. 17 Arizona gymnastics team fell to two top-10 teams yesterday in Los Angeles.
The Gymcats (193.625) finished behind meet winner No. 8 Georgia and No. 2 UCLA after a strong first rotation and a weak performance on the balance beam.
Arizona had a season-low 47.025 as a team on the balance beam, a performance that doomed the Gymcats.
Arizona (10-7, 3-3) bounced back with a season-high 9.85 in the floor exercise and a solid vault, but couldn't overcome its ineffectiveness on the beam.

Women's swim and dive takes second at Pac-10 Championship
The Arizona women's swim and dive teams took home second place and four conference titles at the Pacific 10 Conference Championships in Seattle this weekend.
The 400-yard relay team of freshman Courtney Cashion, junior Jenna Gresdal, junior Ryann Hackett and freshman Lacey Nymeyer won on the tournament's final event Saturday, with a time of 3:18.01.
Senior Jessica Hayes finished second in the 200y backstroke. She won the event at the Championships last season.

Men's golf takes third in weekend tourney
Sophomore Henry Liaw led the Arizona men's golf team to a season-low 54-hole score on its way to a third-place finish this weekend in Wahiawa, Hawaii, in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate.
Liaw was the top individual finisher for the Wildcats, placing ninth in the event, 11 shots behind tournament winner Ryan Moore of UNLV.
New Mexico won the 22-team event, two strokes ahead of UNLV and five shots in front of Arizona.

Women's rugby falls to Claremont
The Arizona women's club rugby team lost 35-0 to Claremont Saturday at Estevan Park.
The game was scoreless until the 15-minute mark, when Claremont scored its first try, converting the field goal to make the score 7-0.
Claremont went on to score three consecutive tries in a nine-minute span.
"We're a young team and we've got a lot to learn," Arizona assistant coach Pat Liebenberg said.
Arizona came out ready after facing a 21-0 halftime deficit, not allowing a try for nearly 20 minutes.
