The No. 50 Arizona women's tennis team finished their 2005 home schedule with a win Saturday, defeating No. 68 Washington State (9-11, 0-6) 7-0.

The Cougars only won one set in the entire match.

"The girls did a good job," said Arizona assistant coach Brian Ramirez.

Seniors Dianne Hollands, Maja Mlakar and Kelly Perry, who played their final home matches for Arizona, were honored with a ceremony between the doubles and singles matches.

"We introduced the seniors," Ramirez said. "Then Kasia (Jakowlew), Cam(elia Todorova) and Steph(anie Balzert) each spoke about one of the seniors."

"Maja's my girl," Jakowlew said. "So I spoke about her at the ceremony."

The No. 32 doubles team of Hollands and Mlakar defeated Orsolya Sallai and Chris Martinez 8-2.

Perry and Todorova followed suit with an 8-1 thrashing of Amy Toth and Aleksandra Stefanova.

The sophomore duo of Jakowlew and Jessie Rochefort finished the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory over Ekaterina Burduli and Nora Gaal.

After the ceremony, the Wildcats (7-11, 1-6 Pacific 10 Conference) went back to work, out-hitting the Cougars in singles play from start to finish.

The toughest match went to No. 40 Hollands, who faced Burduli in a back-and-forth match. Hollands won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).

"Di played great," Ramirez said. "She was actually behind in the third set before fighting back and earning the victory."

On court two, No. 87 Mlakar easily took care of Sallai 6-1, 6-0, while Perry defeated Martinez in business-like fashion 6-2, 6-2.

"With it being senior day, it gave the girls an extra push," Ramirez said.

The seniors weren't the only ones who did their job. This time the underclassmen were there to back them up.

Jakowlew, playing on court four, easily defeated Gaal 6-2, 6-2.

"I got to play on the same row as the seniors. I was honored," Jakowlew said.

Todorova took care of Toth in a hard-fought, 7-6, 6-3 battle, and Rochefort completed the sweep for the Wildcats with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Stefanova.

On Friday, Arizona fell to No. 21 Washington (13-7, 2-3) 4-3.

Arizona started the match strong, taking two of the three doubles matches, earning the first point for the Wildcats.

Hollands and Mlakar beat up Washington's Dinka Hadzic and Dea Sumantri 8-0 to get things started.

On court three, Perry and Todorova defeated Washington's Monika Kolbovic and Tara Simpson 8-5 to earn the point for Arizona.

In singles play, junior Stephanie Balzert tried to play through a leg injury, but could not, forcing the Wildcats to forfeit the match.

With the match tied at 1, it was a race to three more victories.

Perry playing on court three had a tough match with Washington's Saskia Nauenberg, losing 6-3, 6-0.

On court six, Todorova fought hard but came up short against Allison Rainey, 6-2, 6-4.

On court five, Jakowlew had a tough, back-and-forth match with Simpson, eventually losing 6-3, 3-6, 1-6.

Hollands and Mlakar earned a pair of wins, but it was too little, too late.

No. 40 Hollands defeated No. 16 Sumantri with relative ease, 6-2, 6-3.

No. 87 Mlakar defeated No. 54 Hadzic 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

"We all finished strong," Perry said. "It was awesome and a nice present for us. It was everything I wanted."
