FREE - Poetry Center Evening Featuring Two Poets – Poetry Center Summer Resident Eric Abbott and recent Iowa Prize winner Megan Johnson. Eric Abbott is a poet and educator from Santa Fe, N.M., with a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Massachusetts. Winner of an Academy of American Poets Prize. Megan Johnson’s first collection of poetry, “The Waiting,” won the 2004 Iowa Poetry Prize. She has a master’s degree in fine arts from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, 7 p.m. UA Poetry Center


Saturday, July 9

Deep Impact Outreach Event. On July 9, 2005 speakers at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory will present the first science results from the Deep Impact mission. A presentation will be made by UA professor and Deep Impact science team member, Jay Melosh. Doors open at 5pm. Seating is limited. First come, first served. 5 p.m. Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, 3rd Floor Atrium

Kirtan: Trance & Dance with Sat Kartar. Kartar is backed up by djembe, guitar, bass, tamboura and temple bells. She has been performing, teaching and recording chant music for 30 years. $20 at door, $15 advance. 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Yoga Oasis Central, 2631 N. Campbell Ave. 322-6142

Live Theater Workshop – “The Pirate Queen of the Caribbean. The Curse of the Black Bean.” A zany musical performed on Sundays until August 14. $7 adults, $5 for 18 and under. 1 p.m. All Together Theater, 5317 E. Speedway Blvd.
