A student is given a Discman and a CD, then asked to opine on each song

Reviewer Bio:

  • regional development junior

  • Favorite band: "Who could it be? Shit. I don't know. Does it have to be an American band? ...Maná."

  • Least favorite band: "Cypress Hill. I think their music is annoying."

    1. The Clash, "London Calling"

Almada: has good rhythm, but it's a little repetitive, and I have no idea what the song is about. At least not yet.

Wildcat: Where are you? In the middle of the song?

Almada: There's a minute to go. Should we go to the next song?

    Wildcat: Is it over?

Almada: It's playing the same thing over and over again since it started.

Wildcat: Well, try to finish it off first.

Almada: Ok ...It's good, like I said. It has good rhythm but, again, I don't like the lyrics.

    2. Head Automatica, "Beating Heart Baby"

Almada: It's a good song. I like it. Let me say something. It's a good party song. It makes me want to grab a beer and start dancing. I've never heard it before. It's one of the best unknown songs out there maybe." (After song finishes) I'm short in my critiques. Am I going to be on the front page?

    3. Jimmy Eat World, "Pain"

    Wildcat: "Anything so far?"

Almada: "It's another good song, but it's just not my type. They're interesting songs. "They're cool songs, but it's just not what I'm used to listening to all the time."

Wildcat: "Would you buy their CD? Would you think about listening to these guys, ever?"

Almada: "I would if I got more time to listen to it."

    4. Kanye West, "Jesus Walks"

Almada: (After song finishes) "We're going to call it a new way of replacing church and learning Christianity in a fun way ...So tomorrow in the newspaper?"

Wildcat: "Yeah. In the arts section."

Almada: "All right. I'll look for myself."
