There are good folksy bands, and there are bad folksy bands.

Bad folksy bands remind you more of Garth Brooks and LeAnn Rimes than Johnny Cash. Bad folksy bands sound contrived and corny, while good folksy bands sound honest and real.

Under this assumption, The Elected is a good folksy band. Starring vocalist and guitarist Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley, The Elected perfects the mellow twangy sounds of the Southwest.

But with light poppy rhythms and whimsical lyrics, the Elected has added a new element to its latest album, "Sun, Sun, Sun."

Its light, almost California-Beach-Boys feel makes the album interesting to listen to for lovers of all genres ... even cheesy country.
