UA honors Pearl Harbor vets
Veterans shed tears as 21 shots were fired into the air and the USS Arizona bell rang eight times yesterday in remembrance of the eight Arizona men who died aboard the ship when it was attacked at Pearl Harbor 63 years ago.
The 51st annual USS Arizona Memorial Service, organized by the Fleet Reserve Association and the UA, honored the 1,177 sailors and Marines who were killed on the USS Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941.

Tucsonans protest Andean free trade
About 100 people from various Tucson groups gathered on campus Friday evening to peacefully protest negotiations for the Andean Free Trade Agreement.
Members of groups such as the No AFTA Alliance and Students for Free Trade protested delegate negotiations over AFTA and to show delegates why the agreement is not a positive one for South Americans and other producers.
The marchers started at Old Main and ended at the Tucson Convention Center, where the negotiations were in progress between delegates from Columbia, Peru, Ecuador and the United States, said Kate Sanderson, 55, a retired Tucsonan and supporter of the cause.

Biomedical classes in Phoenix may start in '06
Expansion plans to establish the UA College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy at Arizona State University's Biomedical Campus in Phoenix are underway, with classes expecting to start in fall 2006, said Phil Gordon, mayor of Phoenix and 1972 UA alum.
Gordon spoke to approximately 150 Tucson residents and UA faculty at a town hall meeting Friday at University Medical Center, where he updated the audience on the design, development and financial status of the expansion.

Man arrested for sleeping in student's bed
An 18-year-old man is suspected of getting into a student's bed and kicking her in the face early Nov. 29. He has been charged with felony trespassing and assault charges, according to police.
Alexander Anderson, who is not a UA student, may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he entered the student's room in Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., around 1:45 a.m., said Sgt. Eugene Mejia, University of Arizona Police Department spokesman.

Poker face: Freshman wins UA tourney
The first ever semester-long No Limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament ended Saturday in the Champion of Champions competitions, and the winner walked away with a $350 poker table made by a UA student.
The Student Union Memorial Center Games Room has been offering poker tournaments all semester, and the final round was completed Saturday, making freshman Alan Horton the champion.
Horton, a management and information systems freshman, took home a $350 poker table, made by a UA student by his company, B&W Poker Tables.
