A UA employee found a metal tool, possibly used to pick locks, around noon Thursday at the Custodial Services building, 1730 N. Vine Ave., reports stated.

The employee said he found the metal tool on the sidewalk by the locked iron gate. There was no sign that the lock on the gate had been tampered with.

The employee said there was nothing missing from the building.

Police put the metal tool into property, reports stated.


A UA employee saw a man steal a magazine from the UofA Bookstore, 1209 E. University Blvd., Thursday afternoon, reports stated.

When police arrived, the employee said she had been watching the video monitors when she saw the man put the magazine into his backpack. The employee said she had not been able to catch the man and was not sure what magazine it was.

The employee estimated the cost of the magazine to be $4.99.

Police put the videotape of the man stealing the magazine into police evidence and told the employee to call them if she saw the man again, reports stated.


Someone sent threatening instant messages to a student while she was online Thursday night in her room at the Pima Residence Hall, 1340 E. First St., reports stated.

The student said she was checking her messages on when someone started instant messaging her. The student said she didn't respond, and the person started threatening her.

The student said she also received messages from two other people.

The student said the people instant messaging her threatened to kill her and her family if she didn't add them to her mailing list, reports stated.

The student said the people sent her an edited version of her own profile and a picture with obscenities on it.

Police told the student to discontinue her screen name and create a new one. Police also told the student to delete any personal information on her profile.

Police have no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.


A student's $400 yellow and black mountain bike was stolen Wednesday morning from the Douglass building, 1100 E. University Blvd., reports stated.

The student said she locked her bike with a cable lock and a U-Lock. Someone cut the cable lock and left the student's front tire behind with the U-Lock still attached.

Police have no suspects of witnesses, reports stated.


Someone used two computers in the Forbes building, 1140 E. South Campus Drive, to download pornography sometime between Nov. 23 and Wednesday, reports stated.

When police arrived, a UA employee said the office where the computers are located is usually locked but said the computer terminals themselves are not locked.

The employee showed police the history of the two computers. On the first computer there were 10 pornography sites. On the second computer there were three pornography sites.

The employee said he would tell his personnel to lock up their computers at night.

Police have no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.


A student saw a man digging through the trash at the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority house, 1050 N. Mountain Ave., Wednesday night, reports stated.

The student told police he saw the man digging through the garbage area and leaving with what looked like a printer and a brown paper bag. The student said he had followed the man until the man left the area.

Police contacted a member of the sorority who said nothing was missing from the trash area.

Police gave her a description of the man in case he came back, reports stated.


Police diverted a student to the Dean of Students Tuesday after they found a bag with 78 cans of Keystone Light beer outside Arizona Stadium, 1557 E. Sixth St., reports stated.

Police found the black bag against the building and saw that it had airline tags on it. The bag felt full, and when police opened it they saw the cans of beer.

Police were able to contact the owner of the bag and met him outside. The student said he was 18 and said the bag had clothing in it and had been stolen out of a pickup truck.

When police told the student they knew what was in the bag, he admitted the beer was his. He was diverted and released.

The beer was placed in the University of Arizona Police Department sergeant's office for distribution for DUI training functions, reports stated.
