Vollyball: Deficit too much for volleyball at NCAAs
Cats end season with 2nd round loss to USD
After battling back to overcome a two-game deficit, the No. 21 Arizona volleyball team was unable to upset No. 9 San Diego Saturday in the second round of the NCAA tournament at the Torero's home, Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The game marks only the second time in 43 postseason contests that the Wildcats rallied after dropping the first two matches to force a fifth set. In 1985, Arizona defeated in-state rival Arizona State in five matches but could not repeat history in its loss to San Diego (30-28, 30-28, 25-30, 27-30, 15-13).

Women's Hoops: Cats romp over Weber State for 32nd straight home win
It was home sweet home once again for the No. 25 Arizona's women's basketball team as the Wildcats won their 32nd consecutive game at McKale Center, an 80-53 victory over Weber State yesterday. The win earned Arizona the Mission Management and Trust Fiesta Classic championship.
Arizona (5-1) shot 46 percent from the floor, 33 percent from 3-point range and 88 percent from the free-throw line during the win. The UA defense held WSU to only 26 percent from the field and out-rebounded its opponent by 19 (49 to 30). The turnover battle was balanced at 15 per team.

Icecats can't copy Friday win, split with Sun Devils
The UA Icecats closed out play for the fall semester in a split Friday and Saturday with No. 7 Arizona State.
Arizona (5-6-1) avenged two season-opening losses to the Sun Devils (10-3) Friday in a 3-2 win, before falling 5-2 in Saturday's night's matchup.
"This one was more for pride. We wanted to show we're the best team in Arizona," junior defenseman Mike Pelletier said after Friday's win. "We were embarrassed those first two games, that gave us some extra motivation."
