ASUA cannot book concerts alone next year

ASUA will not be sponsoring any major concert productions alone next year, Dean of Students Melissa Vito decided last week.

Vito attributed the policy change to university-wide budget cuts as well as several meetings between the Associated Students of the University of Arizona and the University Activities Board, which spent the year competing for bookings.

The two groups sometimes scheduled concerts close enough that ticket sales were affected. [Read article]

Sun Devils burned by Coburn homer

You can usually expect the unexpected when an in-state rival comes to town, and last night was no different as Arizona outlasted No. 5 Arizona State, 5-3, in a back-and-forth battle before a sold-out Hillenbrand Stadium crowd.

With the win, the No. 2 Wildcats (45-7 overall, 12-3 Pac-10) kept pace with No. 1 UCLA atop the Pacific 10 Conference standings with identical 12-3 records. [Read article]

Cameras being considered for use in garages

Students and staff said yesterday that cameras in university garages may help in preventing crime and create a higher sense of safety.

The issue of safety in garages was brought to the forefront after a woman was sexually assaulted on the third floor of Park Avenue Garage in the middle of the day Thursday.

Kristi Woolever, a music sophomore who regularly parks in university garages, said most garages only light up at night, and even though it may be sunny during the day, the structures are still rather dark.

Woolever said that although lighting the garage during the day may also be a good idea, video cameras might give police a better idea of what is going on. [Read article]

Most memorable UA sports moments

With the semester drawing to a close ÷ this is the Wildcatâs next-to-last issue ÷

Surprisingly, my memorable moment of the year didnât happen in McKale or at Arizona Stadium. It wasnât when the unranked basketball team beat two of the top five teams in the nation to open the season, or when Jennie Finch broke the NCAA consecutive wins record at home in Hillenbrand. Students like ÎStuff I Hateâ

I am a senior and will be graduating next Saturday, and today will be the last time I get the Wildcat. For a long time now, N.C. Wintersâ ăVoice of Doom,ä and more specifically ăStuff I Hate,ä is the first thing I read every day when I grab the Wildcat. I just wanted to commend him on his comic, thatâs all. I like the sick, sarcastic sense of humor. Itâs a good reminder that not everybody at UA belongs to one of those large homogenous ăsocialä organizations, even though at times it seemed that way, and I know a lot of people feel the same way. Keep up the good work, dude. Good luck. [Read article]

Dead Day: A day of endless possibilities

Students use Dead Day to explore many realms of college life

Contrary to popular belief, not all UA students drown their end-of-the-semester sorrows in booze. Of course ÷ and this goes without saying ÷ many of them do. [Read article]
