A former UA student was arrested yesterday for allegedly sending an e-mail death threat to University President Peter Likins, UAPD reports stated.

Sarood Tavneer 21, of the 1200 block of East Drachman Street, was arrested yesterday by the University of Arizona Police Department after a weeklong investigation into a death threat sent to Likins the morning of March 25.

Administration office workers called UAPD that afternoon.

Reports stated detectives traced the e-mail and revealed that it came from a Hotmail account.

Detectives researched the registration of the account, which led them to Tanveer. They also traced the account and found that he did access various labs across campus.

Detectives copied hard drives of the computers for forensic evidence.

Tanveer was admitted into UA in 1999 but attended for only one year. At the time of his arrest, he was enrolled at Pima Community College.

Tanveer was booked into Pima County Jail on charges of computer tampering, interference of an educational institution, harassment, and threats and intimidation.

He is currently being held on a bond of $16,000.
