In-state students will receive a 12 percent tuition increase and out-of-state students will pay a 9.7 percent increase next year if a proposal released today by university President Peter Likins is approved. The Arizona Board of Regents will decide on the proposal, which is coupled with increases in financial aid, on April 25 and 26. Board of Regents president Kay McKay has come out in support of the proposal, but it will face an uphill battle from student lobbyists. The Wildcat asked students how they felt about Likins' decision.
"I guess it's unfortunate, but with budget cuts, they need to do something. Arizona is still pretty cheap. I don't know why the budget fell short · Now that they are in this position, and with the salary crisis, what are they going to do?"

"I think that if that's what needs to be done, then that's what needs to be done. Three hundred dollars over a year is not going to stop me from getting my degree."

"I don't think any increase is good. They just keep tacking on extra money, and I'm not seeing a penny."

"Honestly, I don't really like it. It is unfair because I don't get financial aid as it is, and it will be a bigger burden on my parents."
