photo UA picked to finish last in Pac-10

The University of Arizona football team was picked to finish last in the Pacific 10 Conference by the west coast media last week at the conference's annual Media Day.

The Wildcats received 46 points, compared to USC's 227. The Trojans just edged out ASU, which received 224 points.

Senior offensive tackle Brandon Phillips used some humor to deal with the last place pick.

"I'm shocked because we thought we'd be picked to win it all," said Phillips at Media Day. "After we get over our shock and disbelief, we'll go about the business of playing the games." [Read article]

Polk helps USA to young women world title

The USA avenged an earlier loss to Brazil to win the 2003 FIBA World Championship, 71-55, aided by UA sophomore center Shawntinice Polk and her 14 points.

Polk, who shot 7-for-10 from the floor, was the game's second leading scorer. LSU's Seimone Augustus led the team with 18 points. Playing 26 minutes, Polk scored in double digits for the second straight game. Against France, she had a game high 15 points. [Read article]
