Jimmy Fallon
The Bathroom Wall (Dreamworks)
Jimmy Fallon is a funny bastard. He is also a very talented bastard.
He weaves his way in and out of 5 different songs on this debut CD ÷ each with completely different retro styles ÷ and still keeps the listener's attention. The single "Idiot Boyfriend" is going to be a goof ball classic reserved for DJs trying to ease their listeners' pain while sitting stuck in traffic.
The video is just as funny. The best thing about this song is that, if the lyrics were changed to anything else, it would not sound out of place on '80s listening dials nation wide. Thankfully, they remain the way they are because this is a great tune.
"(I Can't Play) Basketball" is a Beastie Boys tribute, substituting "nothing but net" for "nothing but nothing." The character's hardwood-challenged taunts open the song with "Yo, you ready for some air ball throwin', free throw blowin', no look where I'm going, free style flowin', your in my house baby!"
The character's troubles continue when he had "18 shots that got rejected." Freshman are going to love the album's stand up comedy that fills the second half, dealing mostly with dorm life and some Troll Doll humor.
Fallon comments on everything from shower baskets, to the tiny freezers in the "midget refrigerators." He also goes on a few rants about the walk of shame, 4-digit in-dorm dialing and fake IDs.
Of fake IDs Fallon said, "You can never ask your friends if it's (the fake ID) cool because they just want to drink. So they'll just tell you it's cool. Oh yeah, you got a good one. You got a good one. This one's going to work. This is going to work. Just trust me, wear the turban and it'll work. Don't be a pussy."
This is a classic.
