If the storyline of last season's Red-Blue Game was youth, this season's theme could very well be experience.
With the Arizona men's basketball team returning all five members of its starting lineup ÷ compared to only returning one last season ÷ the team's experience will be on display for free tonight at 7 in McKale Center.
"These scrimmages give us a chance to rejuvenate ourselves," sophomore Channing Frye said. "We have been practicing really hard and this gives us a chance to show our fans what we are learning. It also gives players an opportunity to step up and show that they deserve minutes during the season."
Arizona basketball fans have seen what the 10 returning players can do with the basketball; but for many, it will be their first chance to see freshmen Andre Iguodala, Hassan Adams, Chris Dunn and Chris Rodgers.
"It's a good chance for the freshmen to see what it's like playing in front of a large crowd," senior point guard Jason Gardner said. "It will help them build their confidence."

Hall of Fame head coach Lute Olson split the teams into two squads that will pit Gardner of the red team against senior Luke Walton of the blue team.
Walton, who hurt his non-shooting pinkie in practice on Friday, will play tonight.
"We all go at it in practice," Frye said. "We all feed off of each other and bring something different to the court."
Associate head coach Jim Rosborough said the Red-Blue Game is a great opportunity for Arizona to put on a good show for its fans, but that the game will still be looked upon as an opportunity to prepare for the regular season.
"We have been practicing hard for around three weeks," Rosborough said. "We are going to even the teams out and put on a good show. But we can't waste time. We have to play well and continue to improve."
This marks the first time that Arizona will officially take the court this season, which differs greatly from a year ago.
Last season, Arizona's preseason schedule included the Maui Invitational and the Coaches vs. Cancer Ikon Classic.
This time last year, Arizona was in the Coaches vs. Cancer Ikon Classic, where it upset Florida and eventual National Champions Maryland, who were both ranked in the top 10 at the time.
The Wildcats gained valuable experiencing playing those games, but Frye said that it has been nice to have the opportunity to be able to practice and take things slower to start the season.
"We started the season early last season," Frye said. "Everything moved so fast last season, but this year we have had an opportunity to slow things down. That has definitely been better for the team."
The Wildcats are ready to start the season and begin their run at Arizona's second national championship.
But for now, they are just going to have to settle with an intrasquad scrimmage.
"We won't stop (the game) and they should be a lot fresher (tonight) than they have been in practice," Olson said.
