Runaway car causes accident
A woman fell down trying to stop her runaway car before it hit another vehicle near campus Monday, reports stated.
At about 4:30 p.m., police went to the parking lot of Jack in the Box, 934 E. Speedway Blvd., in response to a report of a motor vehicle accident.
Police spoke with a woman who was driving a 1993 Plymouth. The woman said the car was running when she got out to throw some trash away in a nearby trash can. The woman said her car suddenly jumped out of park and began to roll in reverse westbound toward the restaurant.
The woman said she tried to get back in the car to stop it, but was knocked down by the car's momentum, reports stated.
The woman told officers the car then made a U-turn in the parking lot and struck the rear bumper of a nearby truck. A man then jumped into the woman's car and was able to get it stopped.
Police spoke with the driver of the truck that had been hit by the car. The man said he was backing the truck out of a parking space when he was hit.
Minor dents and scratches were made to both vehicles. Both parties exchanged information.
Police asked the woman if she needed medical attention due to her fall, but she refused, reports stated.
Criminal damage
A student told police she did not know who would damaged her car Monday, after it was spray painted, keyed, and had its front windshield smashed, reports stated.
At about 10:30 p.m., police met with the student at her damaged car in the parking lot at 520 N. Euclid Ave. All sides of her car including doors, windows and fenders had been spray painted with white spray paint. The driver's and rear left passenger doors had been keyed and the front windshield was smashed, reports stated.
Police took photographs of the damage and placed them into University of Arizona Police Department property as evidence.
The student said she last saw her car undamaged at 6 p.m., and does not know anyone who might have done the damage.
The student told officers she would like to press charges. No other evidence was left at the scene, reports stated.
Criminal damage
A man was cited Sunday after he tore down a brick wall at a Jack in the Box near campus, reports stated.
At about 11:45 p.m., police were patrolling near the intersection of East Speedway Boulevard and North Park Avenue, when they saw a man east of the Jack in the Box, 934 E. Speedway Blvd., yelling at cars and disrupting traffic.
The manager of the Jack in the Box flagged down the officers and told them the man had been standing in his drive-thru "messing with" his customers. The manager said the man had been asked to leave the property three times before the officers arrived.
Police then spoke with an employee of the Jack in the Box, who said while he was working the drive-thru window, he saw the man standing across from the drive-thru window asking customers for "a light" and spare change.
The employee said he asked the man to leave and the man walked to the edge of the driveway and began to shake the brick wall and lean on it. The employee said the wall fell over and the man started to walk southbound while continuing to talk to people in cars.
The Jack in the Box manager said he would like to press charges.
Police found the man and cited and released him upon a promise to appear in court.
Pictures of the wall were placed into evidence, reports stated.
