Centennial Awards, which are given to students who in their time at the UA demonstrated "evidence of outstanding personal growth," will be given to six students at the UA's 127th Commencement Exercises on Dec. 21.

Cheri Blauwet and Oscar Contreras will receive Bachelor's Centennial Awards.

While at the UA, Blauwet, a molecular and cellular biology senior, founded the International Institute for Disability Advocacy, an institute that provides advocacy training and scholarships to the disabled in developing countries.

Blauwet has also worked for the Disability Resource Center, served as the service chairman of Alpha Phi Omega Honorary, volunteered with the UA Rural Health office Mobile Clinic, and been the assistant coach for the UA Wheelchair Track and Road Racing Team.

Contreras, a political science senior, has spent his time at the UA serving as a platoon commander in the NROTC's Enlisted Commissioning Program, a program that allows undergraduates to be commissioned as officers while going to school.

Contreras has also been president of the Neptune Society and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

Recipients of the Centennial Award at the master's level will be Peter Littlehat and April Robaina.

Littlehat will receive his master's degree in chemical and environmental engineering.

During his time at the UA, Littlehat has participated in the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.

Littlehat received his bachelor's degree from Northern Arizona University, and he interned for the Environmental Protection Agency. After he graduated, Littlehat received an offer for a position at IMB monitoring the company's wastewater treatment plants and studying hazardous waste sites under IMB's control.

Robaina, a UA graduate, will receive her master's degree in landscape architecture.

Since she's been at the UA, Robaina has worked with the UA Arboretum to propagate 11 tree species on campus. The trees are now two years old and ready to be planted.

Robaina, has also been president of the American Society of Landscape Architects Student Chapter and organized an art gallery featuring student and faculty work.

Janna Crews and Logan Trujillo will receive Doctorate Centennial Awards.

Crews, who will earn her doctorate in management information systems, has worked as an instructor for the Tucson Urban League Micro-enterprise Training and Loans Project, served as the graduate student representative for the NCAA Fiscal Integrity Subcommittee, and is nationally recognized for her research.

Crews is the national team leader for one of five areas dealing with distance learning under a $3.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense.

Crews is also founder and president of Ritmos Latinos, a student club that promotes Latino dance and music to the community.

Trujillo will receive his doctoral degree in psychology.

While at the UA, Trujillo has studied cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience, and authored an abstract for the publication Consciousness and Cognition.

Trujillo has also volunteered at the UA Center for Consciousness Studies, a center that supports research on consciousness.
