Dec. 16 - UA senior point guard Jason Gardner was named the Pacific10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 8 -15, the league announced on Monday.
Gardner led Arizona to a 73-70 win over No. 8 Texas with 13 points, a career-high eight rebounds and seven assists. He scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half, including six in the final two minutes. The seven assists were a season high and were measured against just one turnover in 37 minutes.
Gardner hit two jumpers in the final two minutes that broke a 65-65 tie and give Arizona the lead for good. He was 4-of-8 from the floor after the break and grabbed six of his eight rebounds.
He was matched up against Texas sophomore T.J. Ford, who also scored 13 points in the game but committed a game-high 6 turnovers.
On the season, Gardner is averaging a team-leading 14.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
It is the second weekly award for Gardner, the 56th all-time honor for the Wildcats.
Arizona is next in action on Saturday, Dec. 21, as the top-ranked Wildcats travel to Baton Rouge, La., to take on Louisiana State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST and can be seen on ESPN2.
