Bynum should rethink move

As Will Bynum sits around thinking about what school he is going to play for, he needs to rethink his decision to leave UA altogether.

His time will come at Arizona. It might not be this season, or even next when the Wildcats welcome point guard Mustafa Shakur, but it will come.

Lute Olson has a plan for Bynum, the same plan he had for former Wildcat and current Atlanta Hawk star Jason Terry.

Terry, a reserve until his senior season, got the chance his senior year and shined, and Bynum could do the same.

Nothing more could help Bynum grow than seeing what it would be like to play in big games come March, whether it's on the bench or on the floor.

It's easy to see where Bynum is coming from as he considers leaving the Wildcats to get more playing time because in the last two games he was getting less time than 10 other Wildcat players.

But like he said earlier in the season, nothing helps improve his game than practicing against Jason Gardner everyday in practice.

For Bynum, sitting out a year will only change things for the short term. The long term goal for Bynum is to get the NBA and playing in front of the national spotlight that Arizona basketball receives will help him get noticed and that's all that matters.

Richard Jefferson didn't score as many points as many NBA prospects might have during his junior season with the Wildcats but the New Jersey Nets saw something in him and gave him a chance. Both can't be happier now.

If your good the NBA will find you.

Olson coaches basketball but more importantly teaches defense. Spending the next two seasons plus at Arizona could make Bynum a tenacious defender with his speed and instincts.

If he could become a stopper on defense, like fellow-sophomore Salim Stoudamire and freshman Chris Rodgers, who Olson calls the best defensive guard on the team, he could move right back into the lineup.

But if he decides to leave UA, he could end up just being the flashy high-jumper he has been since arriving to Tucson.
