Arizona freshman Kim Glass has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Freshman of the Year and a second team All-America honoree, the organization announced today.
Glass, who recently led Arizona to its third straight Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA tournament, finished her first season at Arizona with 556 kills and a 4.96 kpg average, both school records for a single season. She finished with double figure kills in 27 of Arizona 32 matches, and had 20 or more kills in a match a school record 14 times. She also led the Wildcats in service aces (44) and finished second on the team in digs with 280.
The Freshman of the Year honor is the first for any Arizona player in school history, while the All-America selection is the third for a Wildcat in as many years. Former Wildcat Dana Burkholder was a two-time All-America selection in 2000 and '01, and classmate Jill Talbot garnered All-America accolades last season as well.
Glass will travel to New Orleans, site of the 2002 Final Four and the AVCA Coaches Convention, to receive her awards at the postseason banquet.
