Football recruits to sign today

Coming off its worst season in 45 years, the Arizona football program takes the first step in returning to a bowl game today with national signing day.

High school players from around the country will be signing their names to national letter of intent forms, and today at 1 p.m., head coach John Mackovic will announce which recruits will come to Arizona next season.

"Everyone that we have anticipated signing, we are still hopeful that they will," said recruiting coordinator Rob Ianello. "Right now, we are just hoping to hold on to the guys that we have been talking to." [Read article]

In her first collegiate action, she started three games for Arizona in the USF-Louisville Slugger Tournament. Two of those were shutouts including a one-hitter against Auburn. Over the weekend Hollowell pitched for 21 innings, striking out 33 ÷ walking only one and allowing only five hits. Hollowell begins her career with a 3-0 start and a 0.00 ERA. [Read article]

photo SoCal hoops disappointing in Pac-10 play

The Pacific 10 Conference is two years removed from having three teams ÷ Arizona, USC, and UCLA ÷ in the Elite Eight.

Year in and year out, the Pac-10 is among the nation's top men's basketball conferences, but this year, its reputation has diminished in the eyes of many, due to an average season by the Trojans and the demise of the once-powerful Bruins.

UCLA (4-13 overall, 2-7 Pac10) is in the midst of its worse season in school history, but UA head coach Lute Olson said the troubles that the Bruins have had should not deter everyone from the talent that is in the Pac-10. [Read article]

Golf rallies to take top honors

College athletes should never underestimate the value of home-field öö or in this case, home-course öö advantage. The Arizona men's golf team proved that yesterday, coming from behind to win the 16-team Ping Arizona Intercollegiate with a three round team total of 23-under-par.

The Wildcats, paced by junior Chris Nallen, pulled off the impressive win. Nallen finished two under for the day, and nine under par for the tournament ÷ good for second place and the fourth top-10 performance of his career. [Read article]
