Three shot Friday
Three people in their 20s were shot near Maloney's Bar, a popular college hangout, early Friday morning after a confrontation broke out behind the building.
Two separate shootings also took place that morning shortly after bars closed. A conflict at Maloney's, 213 N. Fourth Ave., turned into a shooting behind the bar at North Herbert Avenue and East Seventh Street shortly after the bar closed at 2 a.m.

Tucsonans take to the streets to commemorate dead, celebrate life
Dressed in brightly colored costumes and wearing black and white face paint, Tucson residents paraded downtown in last night's 15th annual All Souls' Procession, a festival meant to celebrate life while honoring the dead.
Beginning at 7:30 p.m. on the corner of North Fourth Avenue and East University Boulevard, more than 4,000 participants and spectators occupied the streets until the parade ended after 9 p.m. at East Toole Avenue and North Stone Avenue, said Officer Mario Portillo of the Tucson Police Department.

Magazine scam targets students
Magazine vendors on campus are trying to scam students by getting them to buy subscriptions that they'll never see, according to a UA official.
The vendors committing the scam usually tell students they are trying to win a trip and have to sell some number of magazines. The vendors then get students to buy magazine subscriptions that are never delivered, said Diane Newman, Mall coordinator.
Newman said the magazine vendors usually look like they could be college students and are very charming, targeting mostly female students.

College of Law begins fund-raising campaign
The James E. Rogers College of Law has announced its campaign to raise money for a new building and renovation project to help expand the school.
The $18 million renovation project for the College of Law will be called the Law Commons and will include a new building, new Law Library and additional computer and multimedia space.
The campaign for the Law Commons has already raised $12 million, and the remaining $6 million is expected to come from private donors.

Pageant kicks off heritage month
Groups throughout the UA community are celebrating Native American Heritage Month with events that recognize the achievements of American Indians from the past and the present.
About 200 students and community members attended the 2004-2005 Miss Native American University of Arizona Pageant Saturday night. Five women representing the Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo Laguna tribes competed to win the title, which has been awarded annually since 1983.

Musicians prepare to battle on the Mall
This evening the cold won't be the only thing creeping over the campus when the sun sets. Guitar feedback, cymbal crashes and applause are also expected as four bands each play half-hour sets for the UA's annual Battle of the Bands.
The Battle of the Bands, which in the past has seen such antics as a dancing gorilla groupie and band members lighting drum sets on fire, will begin at 5 p.m. on the UA Mall stage.
