Men's hoops: Wildcats throttled by Virginia
Cats lose for first time in first road trip of year
The Arizona men's basketball team was on the receiving end of many lessons during the No. 10 Wildcats' 78-60 loss to Virginia yesterday in Charlottesville, Va.
The first: The Atlantic Coast Conference - home to three of the Associated Press poll's top four teams and six of the nation's top 20 - could be college basketball's best conference after all, especially since the unranked Cavaliers were picked to finish eighth come the end of conference play.

Sure, the Arizona men's basketball team won its first two games by double digits and the buzz around campus suggested this year will be different than last.
But the Virginia Cavaliers exposed the Wildcats last night, beating them 78-60 while bringing back memories of last season to Wildcat fans.
While Arizona still possesses all the talent in could ever need, they Wildcats will need to answer some questions if they want this season to be a success.

Volleyball cruises past ASU in Tempe
The No. 22 Arizona volleyball team (17-9, 9-7 Pac-10) completed a season sweep over instate rival Arizona State Friday night in Tempe, as the Wildcats took down the Sun Devils in three games (30-16, 30-25, 30-27). As postseason play fast approaches, the Wildcats are promised at least a .500 finish in the Pacific 10 Conference with two regular season matches remaining.
The Wildcats hit .369 on the night while holding the Sun Devils to a .230 hitting percentage. Arizona was out-blocked 6.5 to five, but managed to produce six service aces compared to Arizona State's three.

Icecats split pair with Texas Tech
Hockey fans were treated to two nail-biters this weekend at the Tucson Convention Center, where the Arizona Icecats split a pair of games decided by one goal each with Texas Tech.
Texas Tech avenged a 6-5 overtime loss Friday by beating Arizona 2-1 Saturday night.
Tech took an early advantage in the defensive battle, scoring goals in the first and second periods to lead 2-0 going into the final frame.

Rugby rolls past ASU for first win
The Arizona men's club rugby team notched its first win of the year with a 44-19 victory over Arizona State Saturday morning at Estevan Park.
The Wildcats (1-2) used their size and speed advantages to control much of the game and extend their 20-year win streak over their instate rivals.
"We executed well," said senior Justin Kunz. "Overall, it was a solid win."
Although Arizona dominated most of the game, never falling behind the Sun Devils, a few costly mistakes allowed ASU to score in three tries.

Women's swim and dive sweeps SoCal road trip
It may not be the time of year to head west to the California beaches, but the Arizona men's and women's swim and dive teams still had a reason to hit the water, with the women sweeping a weekend set with Southern California and UCLA and the men falling to the Trojans Friday.
The men's team fell to No. 2 USC, 182-170, while the women's team defeated the Women of Troy, 186-113, before dropping UCLA by a slim margin, 149-148.
