The No. 22 Arizona volleyball team (17-9, 9-7 Pac-10) completed a season sweep over instate rival Arizona State Friday night in Tempe, as the Wildcats took down the Sun Devils in three games (30-16, 30-25, 30-27). As postseason play fast approaches, the Wildcats are promised at least a .500 finish in the Pacific 10 Conference with two regular season matches remaining.

The Wildcats hit .369 on the night while holding the Sun Devils to a .230 hitting percentage. Arizona was out-blocked 6.5 to five, but managed to produce six service aces compared to Arizona State's three.

"I feel like we've played like we've been practicing," said UA head coach Dave Rubio. "Our offense was good, our middle (blockers) were excellent. Kelli (Mulvany) has always been steady and Kim (Glass) really performed well. Jen (Abernathy) had an exceptional week at practice which warranted her to start. Left side hitting position is going to be who put up the best numbers that week."

Junior outside hitter Kim Glass manned both the UA offense and defense with team-highs 20 kills and 11 digs, good for her ninth double-double of the season. Senior middle blocker Jolene Killough had 14 kills on 22 attempts with no errors for a .636 hitting percentage, in addition to four digs and two blocks. Juniors Bre Ladd and Jennifer Abernathy contributed seven kills apiece.

Senior Cassidy Crum had 10 digs as fellow senior libero Kelli Mulvany boasted nine. Sophomore setter Stephanie Butkus dished out 48 assists, eight digs and three kills on three attempts for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage.

The win did not come easy as the rivalry, senior night and televised match ensured a heated competition.

"They had a decent crowd with the high school season over," Rubio said of playing at Wells Fargo Arena. "ASU hasn't been performing well this year, but they still had a good crowd. The student section was kind of rough, but that's to be expected on the road against a rival school."

In the third and final game, the Sun Devils got out to an early 6-0 lead before the Wildcats rallied to pull ahead. The match was knotted at both 17 and 23 but Arizona would go on to take a three-point lead at 28-25. The Sun Devils pulled within one point, 28-27, but the Wildcats capitalized on their lead and won the match 30-27. Arizona hit .250 in the game and held its rival to a .208 hitting percentage. Glass led her team with eight kills.

Arizona State started off strong in the second match, producing a 7-1 lead. The Sun Devils led again at 16-11 before the Wildcats initiated a 5-0 scoring drive to tie the match. Arizona broke through at 23-22 and forced an Arizona State timeout. The Wildcats went on a 7-3 run once play resumed and won the match 30-25. Arizona hit .375 in the game while Arizona State hit .279. Glass led the Arizona attack with seven kills on the game and Abernathy and Killough followed with five and four, respectively.

"The second game and third game they started with a server (who had) a tough ball to handle," Rubio said. "We never panicked. We never thought we wouldn't win that game. It was good to see us kind of relax and do what we need to do on each play."

The first game was initially back and forth before the Wildcats began to dominate on an 8-3 run to jump out to an 18-11 lead. The Wildcats went on to score the final eight points of the match and won 30-16. The Wildcats maintained a .533 hitting percentage while holding the Sun Devils to only .200. Killough notched six kills on the match while Glass had five.

Arizona returns to McKale Center for its final regular season matches Friday at 7 p.m. against No. 14 California. Action continues Saturday at 7 p.m. as the Wildcats take on No. 9 Stanford.

The Golden Bears fell to No. 1 Washington in four games Friday but swept Washington State the day before. The Cardinal experienced more success against the Huskies, handing them their first loss of the season Thursday. Stanford was down two games to none but came away with the victory in the five-match affair. Stanford swept Washington State Friday.

"Given the fact that it was five-game match, both (Washington and Stanford) are pretty even," Rubio said. "Home-court advantage plays a big part in close games. Stanford proved they could play anyone in the country. It will be great for our fans (and will) be a great finish for us."
