First images of Titan's surface unveiled at UA
The first surface images of Titan, Saturn's largest moon, were unveiled Saturday in the Kuiper Space Sciences building after the Huygens probe landed on the moon Friday.
Part of the Cassini spacecraft designed to photograph Saturn, the Huygen's probe is a device designed to allow an imaging system to detach from the spacecraft and successfully enter Titan's unpredictable atmosphere.
A projector screen was set up in a third-floor lecture hall of the Kuiper Space Sciences building to assist describing the history of the mission, details of the Descent Imager/Spectral Radiometer (DISR) photographing instrument and pictures of Titan.

Students march to remember MLK
Hundreds of people from different ethnic backgrounds marched about three miles yesterday from the UA Mall to Reid Park to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The annual march, which has been a Tucson tradition for more than 15 years, is a ritualistic way for some UA students and community members to celebrate the holiday each year.
The march began with an opening ceremony, which included speeches from different individuals who wanted to honor King.

UA regent named to nat'l board of higher ed
A member of the Arizona Board of Regents was selected to sit on a national higher education board and will have the opportunity to strengthen leadership at universities around the nation.
Regent Jack Jewett, a UA alumnus and Tucson resident, was chosen to serve on the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges' board of directors, making him the first Arizona regent to sit on the board.

UMC delivers 700th heart transplant, recipient recovers rapidly, praises staff
Eugene Martinez considers himself a walking miracle.
Days after receiving the 700th heart transplant at University Medical Center in late December, Martinez, 55, was walking around his townhouse in Green Valley, something he was not expecting after such a major surgery.
"I feel like a teenager again," Martinez said.
He received his new heart Dec. 28 after nine hours of surgery, which Martinez said went smoothly.

UA student jumps from fifth floor of local hotel
A UA student survived jumping off the fifth floor of a university-area hotel Saturday morning in what officials suspected was a suicide attempt.
The incident took place Saturday around 8:46 a.m. at the Marriott University Park Hotel, 880 E. Second St., said Kerry Fuller, a public information officer for the Tucson Police Department.
The female student, in her late 20s, reportedly jumped from the fifth floor on her own accord, with no other foul play involved, officials said.
