Cats' chance at No. 1 rides on sophomore point guard Shakur
Mustafa Shakur is used to lofty expectations.
He came to the UA last season as arguably the nation's premier freshman point guard, and didn't disappoint, scoring nearly 10 points per game to go with almost four assists.

Women's Hoops: UA routs Play Mode by 26 in exhibition
On a Tuesday night full of close contests, the UA campus was home to one decisive winner.
The Arizona women's basketball team pounced on Play Mode Sports 24-0 in the first half, riding the margin to an 80-54 victory in the Wildcats' first exhibition contest of the season.
"I saw a lot of good tonight," UA head coach Joan Bonvicini said. "We came out and executed well."
The Wildcats dominated the first 10 minutes, sparked by junior center Shawntinice Polk and freshman guard Jessica Arnold.

Knauer's Korner: One year all it takes for hoops, football
Size will matter this season for Arizona's men's basketball team.
Sunday's Red-Blue Game marked the first time in nearly a calendar year center Channing Frye and forward Isaiah Fox roamed the paint together in official competition. For both players, it was a productive outing. Frye dropped 37 points and eight rebounds for the victorious Red team, while Fox (eight points, 14 rebounds) picked up where he left off last November, when he injured his knee against Florida.

Athletes Of The Week: No generation gap for Meehan, Irwin
This past weekend, a pair of Icecat teammates combined for five of Arizona's goals in its 7-2 win over Lehigh, the Icecats' first victory of the season. Senior Mickey Meehan scored four goals while freshman Craig Irwin added his first and second career goals in the Icecats' two-game weekend split with the Mountain Hawks. The two players sat with the Wildcat to discuss their hopes for this season, whether the Zamboni is better than our halftime show and who picks up more chicks.

Soccer's Smith named Pac-10 Player of Week
The No. 10 UA soccer team's record-setting season - and that of freshman goalkeeper McCall Smith - just keeps getting better.
The Pacific 10 Conference named Smith Player of the Week on the heels of the Salt Lake City native's pair of shutout victories over then-No. 5 UCLA and Southern California last week.
The victories propelled the Wildcats into sole possession of first place with just one weekend to play. The Wildcats hit the road to face Oregon and Oregon State this weekend to close out Pac-10 play against the conference's bottom two teams.
