The No. 10 UA soccer team's record-setting season - and that of freshman goalkeeper McCall Smith - just keeps getting better.

The Pacific 10 Conference named Smith Player of the Week on the heels of the Salt Lake City native's pair of shutout victories over then-No. 5 UCLA and Southern California last week.

The victories propelled the Wildcats into sole possession of first place with just one weekend to play. The Wildcats hit the road to face Oregon and Oregon State this weekend to close out Pac-10 play against the conference's bottom two teams.

Smith had key saves early in the first half Friday against USC, keeping the game scoreless until the Wildcats opened got on the board in the 34th minute. Smith had six saves on the night to lead Arizona to a 3-0 victory with her ninth shutout of the season.

Against UCLA two days later, Smith shut down the Pac-10's top offensive team, stopping four Bruin shots and helping the Wildcats to their third victory over a ranked opponent this season. Arizona had never defeated a ranked team prior to this year.

The 1-0 shutout also marked Arizona's first-ever win over the Bruins in the 10-game series history.

With her 10th shutout, Smith is the new Arizona single-season and career shutout leader, surpassing former Wildcat Inger Airheart's career mark of nine.

She also paces the Pac-10 in shutouts (10) and saves (83) on the season, while allowing just 0.49 goals per game.

This is Smith's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Arizona's sixth weekly honor all-time.

The Wildcats (14-4-0 overall, 5-2-0 Pac-10), ranked for the first time ever this season, cracked the top 10 this week after Sunday's win.
