This past weekend, a pair of Icecat teammates combined for five of Arizona's goals in its 7-2 win over Lehigh, the Icecats' first victory of the season. Senior Mickey Meehan scored four goals while freshman Craig Irwin added his first and second career goals in the Icecats' two-game weekend split with the Mountain Hawks. The two players sat with the Wildcat to discuss their hopes for this season, whether the Zamboni is better than our halftime show and who picks up more chicks.

Wildcat: Mickey, what was it like to have four goals in your past game?

Meehan: It's a great feeling. Scoring one goal in a game is awesome, but four is really great, especially sitting out because of the fight the game before.

Wildcat: Talk about the fight - did you win?

Meehan: (laughs) Let Irwin answer that.

Irwin: I think he did. I don't even think the kid got a shot in, did he?

Meehan: Nah, I had the kid's jersey over his head.

Wildcat: Is pulling the jersey over their head the best move to make?

Irwin: You want to take away their arms, so yeah.

Wildcat: Do you feel fighting is part of the game?

Meehan: At that point, we were losing and you want to get some momentum and you want to get the fans into it. If it takes a fight, it takes a fight.

Wildcat: Do you feel this team has a chance to eclipse last year where it was a little disappointing?

Meehan: For sure. Our goal this year is to make nationals and I see no reason why we shouldn't. We had a couple of tough games to start out the season, but we can improve.

Wildcat: Does alcohol sales at the game make the crowds as comparable to other major sports on campus?

Irwin: (laughs) Yeah, it helps for sure.

Meehan: The crowd gets a little crazy, but I think they stop selling in the third period.

Wildcat: Would you rather have a blindside hit on a Sun Devil or have one goal in a game?

Meehan: (A goal) if the goal helped my team win, but if the goal meant nothing, then I'd rather pummel an ASU guy.

Wildcat: Who hits the hardest on the team?

Irwin: (Senior defenseman Keith) Mitchell.

Meehan: Yeah, for sure.

Irwin: If he gets him good, but so can (Antony) Capone.

Wildcat: What are you learning as a freshman with a senior on the same line?

Irwin: How to score. I also learned how to play in big games and how to get yourself into it and stay focused in the game.

Wildcat: Who gets the most chicks between you two?

Meehan: Well, he has a girlfriend.

Irwin: Yeah, I got a girlfriend.

Wildcat: So it's Meehan by default.

Wildcat: Do you feel hockey is the most demanding and physical sport on campus?

Meehan: Well, we practice five or six days a week and have two games a week, but I think every sport is demanding.

Irwin: I think it is because we don't get that much rest. We're always playing.

Wildcat: Who has the weirdest pre-game ritual on the team?

Meehan: It is usually the goalies. The goalies are the weirdest people I've ever known.

Irwin: They've got weird stretches and they don't talk to anybody.

Wildcat: OK, this or that: cheap whiskey or hot beer?

Meehan: Cheap whiskey.

Irwin: Yeah, cheap whiskey.

Wildcat: Political conversations or football chatter?

Meehan: Football chatter.

Irwin: Me too.

Wildcat: Dumb girls or smart girls.

Irwin: Smart girls.

Meehan: (laughs) Depends on how they look.

Wildcat: Living in the real world or being in college forever?

Irwin: College.

Meehan: (laughs) I don't know, I'm too old for that question. College is awesome.
