I don't remember much about "Jeepers Creepers 2. "I don't remember the names of any characters, or if there were any memorable actors involved. I better write this review quickly, because even the plot is getting a bit hazy. All I remember is that I had a pretty fun time.
And that means mission accomplished for writer and director Victor Salva, who also wrote and directed the first installment in this "epic" saga.
The flick revolves around a high school basketball team on the way back from winning the state tournament. And it's no wonder they won; most of the team looks over 25. Suspend disbelief · suspend ·
Their bus breaks down on a rural highway out in the country and, of course, neither the radio nor the cell phones will work. The Creeper (Jonathon Breck), who eats the body parts he likes from each of his victims, sets out to make dinner of those on board. There isn't much mystery about what happens next, as The Creeper swoops down time and again to eat the team.
But they only have to fend off The Creeper for one night, and then he'll leave for 23 years. Which, like the rest of the movie, makes perfect sense.
Fortunately, there aren't any main characters to root for, nor much of a romantic subplot. So when people die, there's not much heart break.
"Creepers" is certainly not a groundbreaking film in the horror genre. Salva mostly steals tricks from past movies. He even steals his premise from the South Park episode in which the kids are trapped on the school bus, while a monster lurks outside.
But there's no reason keeping anybody from looking to escape from the academic world for a couple hours. "Creepers" has the usual jumpiness and gore of a scary movie, and at a little over 100 minutes, it doesn't drag.
But this isn't "The Exorcist" or "The Ring." Once you leave the theater, you'll forget all about "Creepers."
None of it will haunt your dreams. This is simply a decent ride with a few cheap laughs and thrills.
By the time you go to sleep, you probably won't even remember that you saw the movie.
