Have you ever been looking at a vase or bowl and thought to yourself; "I wonder how they shape the glass like that?"
On Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7, you'll get your chance.
To kick off the 2003-4 school year, The Glass Studio at Sonoran Art Foundation has invited students and glass art enthusiasts to watch glass art in the making.
"We're having two days where we have advanced student glassblowers come and blow glass for our open house." said David Morden, administrator of The Glass Studio, "We are also having a gallery where we sell the glass pieces blown by the students."
The pieces sold will benefit the artists directly.
Staff members of the Glass Studio will also be on hand to answer any questions guests may have about the art of glass blowing itself and information about class offerings at the studio.
In addition, The Glass Studio co-founder Dave Klein will be in attendance on Sunday to teach a one-day class.
"Starting on September 8, we will be having our ten week glassblowing course." said Morden, himself just beginning to learn the art of glass crafting.
"We also have workshops that range from a few hours, where students learn to make things like paperweights, to a three day weekend class."
Classes at The Glass Studio start at $75 and go to $1400 for the 10 week course.
"This is a first time shot for our open house," said Morden, "We just opened in 2001, so we're fairly new. We're really excited to have people come in and see what we're about and who we are, and hopefully get people interested in coming down and joining us for glassblowing."
