All-American one of 30 to train for Nordic Cup

Arizona soccer player Mallory Miller received an invite from the U.S. Under-21 team to participate at the Women’s National Team Camp in Carson, Calif., Jan. 14-21.

“It’s an opportunity that most people do not get to have,” Miller said in a press release. “I’m just going to go out there and do the best that I can. I want to make the most of this chance and have fun while doing so.”

Miller, who was named the Pacific 10 Conference’s Most Outstanding Player for the 2005 season, as well as being named to the second squad of the Adidas All-American team, is one of 30 players selected to train with U.S. Soccer in preparation for the Nordic Cup that will be held this summer in Norway.

“It’s another well-deserved honor for Mallory,” Arizona soccer head coach Dan Tobias said in a press release. “It is a nice recognition not only for her outstanding senior season, but a fine collegiate career as well.”

Miller led Arizona to its first Sweet Sixteen in the 2005 NCAA tournament, while also setting 12 school records, including most career goals, 32, and assists, 19.

Along with Miller, the Pac-10 had three other schools — Stanford, UCLA and ASU — that each had two players named to the squad. Portland, the 2005 NCAA Champions, had none.
