Nader campaigns at UA

photo 350 attend speech by presidential candidate

Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader called for President Bush's impeachment yesterday afternoon while speaking to more than 350 people crowded into the courtyard of the College of Law building.

"We have a president who plunged us into a war that was based on fabrications, lies and deceptions day after day," Nader said. "If that isn't an impeachable offense, it is hard to find what is." [Read article]

If any instrument has been maligned within Western music, it is the steel pan. Most American music fans are introduced to the instrument via the laid-back sounds of Jimmy Buffet. That's usually where the relationship stops. But the UA Steel Band is trying to take the pans out of "Margaritaville" and back into the concert hall where they belong. [Read article]

╬Red Ant House' author to speak at UA tonight

It's not easy for most writers to get their work printed in magazines like McSweeney's and The New Yorker. Ann Cummins, a writer and professor, grew up Irish Catholic on a Navajo reservation, a child of working-class parents. It's in sharp contrast to the decidedly more suburban, bourgeois upbringing of most writers who publish in those institutions of modern short fiction.
